The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies (“the Foundation”) seeks a Director of Development with a deep knowledge of the Jewish community to design and execute a comprehensive and sustainable development strategy; ensure development efforts are robust and successful; and demonstrate effective staff/volunteer leadership. Playing an integral role in our organization, you’ll report directly to the Executive Director and work directly with the development committee and the governing Board of Trustees.

WHAT YOU'LL DO…

The Director of Development will grow the assets of our $200+ million Foundation through the cultivation of strong and lasting relationships with current and prospective donors, agency leaders and supporters.

In this role, you will be accountable for an integrated fund development approach towards planned giving / endowments and major gifts through donor communication and development activities including website, social media marketing materials, publications, collateral materials, in-person meetings, events, fundraising activities, and public appearances and speaking engagements to further the Foundation’s mission. Additionally, you will guide affiliated agencies in support of capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives; provide leadership and oversight to a Donor Relationship Manager and volunteer team.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING …

• Master’s Degree preferred in Jewish Professional Leadership, Jewish Education, Business Administration, or a similar field; or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5-7 years’ experience and demonstrated success in leading fund development initiatives in the nonprofit arena.
• Knowledge and experience in development techniques, particularly major capital gift giving and the development of endowments. (legal, financial or insurance background and experience in the use of charitable techniques in estate and income tax planning is a plus).
• Proven track record and comfort level in build relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders and partner agencies, as well as with the donors’ professional advisors.
• Exceptional understanding of philanthropy as it relates to the not-for-profit organization and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of development.
• Technical knowledge and the ability to identify and educate donors in the use of the various strategies available to execute upon the donors’ intent.
• Embrace of the Foundation’s mission and passion for its values, and extensive knowledge of the Jewish community, customs, values and traditions.
